The suburban district of Roehampton is located within the London Borough of Wandsworth. It forms the western border of the borough - the area between Putney, Wimbledon Common and Barnes. The area is situated 6.3 miles of Charing Cross.

The district first became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. Putney Bridge had an important role in this process of development, since its opening in 1729 allowed the building of some large estate.
