Interesting Locations in Southfields, SW18
The district of Southfields is located in the London Borough of Wandsworth. The area is 9 kilometres away from Charing Cross in a southwest direction. Some parts of the area fall within the SW18 postcode district, while others are in SW19.
Southfields consisted of unoccupied fields, well into the 19th century, bordered by the more developed Putney and Wimbledon. Development was initiated with the arrival of the District and London and South Western railway in 1889. The paths that passed through the former field area were incorporated in the present day road network. Such include Merton Road, Wimbledon Park Road, the Baulk and Kimber Road.
Southfields Triangle is one of the main residential areas of the district. It occupies the area (roughly resembling a triangle) from Granville Road (north), Standen Road (south) and Pulborough Road (west). The area consists largely of Edwardian and Victorian houses. One of the more notable landmarks in this area is the factory of Frame Foods in art nouveau style.
The Grid is the second main residential area within Southfields. It takes its name from the grid-like street layout. Edwardian terraced houses dominate the area.
